Description

Our signal acquisition systems convert the form of signals from analog to digital and from digital to analog, communicate with a host, and perform digital signal processing by the internal DSP. Code development for the internal DSP is by downloading via the USB, or by using the JTAG header to access the on-chip facilities. Interaction through the JTAG header is accomplished by our emulators.

Our AUDIO4-USB has four signal channels for conversion. It utilizes the Freescale DSP56311 digital signal processor to do the internal digital processing, and conduct communication with a host via the USB at 12 MHz. Program code for the DSP56311 is stored in flash Rom. Power is from the USB. 

The four signal channels have their Analog to Digital and Digital to Analog conversions implemented with two of the Crystal Semiconductor CS4218 audio bandwidth CODECs from Cirrus Logic.

The CODEC resolution is 16-bits in both conversion directions. The user selectable conversion rate is from 8kHz to 48 kHz.

Operating code to the internal DSP can be provided by two means. One is to bring it in via the USB connection; the other is to use the JTAG header that gives access to the on-chip emulation logic. Our emulators can be used to access the on-chip facilities.

Our AUDIO4-USB system comes with sample audio applications and user libraries which allow for full control of the DSP56311 processor.

Software for the internal DSP56311 DSP is generated with Freescale or Tasking products and debugged with our BoxView and BoxServer software.

When using our BoxView development software, our software driver allows access to the DSP in the monitor mode.

Primary applications are in the fields of acoustic and audio measurement and analysis, speech processing, vibration measurement and analysis, 3-D sound, signal synthesis, and applications requiring portable field based data acquisition and measurement.

Software

Some amount of the DSP execution time is consumed by the processing involved with communicating over the USB. The remainder of the DSP execution time is available for additional software tasks. Our AUDIO4-USB comes with sample audio application software and user libraries, for the PC and DSP, in source and object form. These libraries provide full control of the DSP56311 processor. Optional software is our BoxView Real-time debugger and code generation from Freescale or Tasking tools.
