Components of the solution

  • SB-56K Universal Emulator for Freescale's DSPs
  • BoxView debugger working stand-alone or as a client to the BoxServer
  • BoxServer concurrent server handling hardware access on behalf of multiple client debuggers connected over the TCP/IP network

Scalability and Flexibility

  • SB-56K Universal Emulator allows for the simultaneous access to multiple DSPs (using JTAG), or up to 2 DSPs - using OnCE.
  • BoxServer allows for the simultaneous access from multiple BoxView debuggers over any TCP/IP network
  • Components of the SB-56K solution allow switching between modes of operation at any time depending on project requirements
Options for small and large organizations:
  • Single user, single DSP
  • Single user, multiple DSPs
  • Remote user, single/multiple DSPs
  • Multiple users, single/multiple DSPs

Remote Access and Convenience

For projects distributed over different buildings, cities, countries
  • TCP/IP connection is the only requirement to allow remote access to specific DSP resources

Internet or direct PPP connection
  • Easy and convenient solution for unexpected support call or midnight debugging session from engineer's home

Example 1

Example1b.gif (18132 bytes)

Suppose that you have only a single copy of a prototype DSP-based board available.

Two engineers: John and Mary need to share the prototype (one at a time).

They use BoxView debugger from the convenience of their offices to access the BoxServer in the lab.

Occasionally Patrick from the Montreal's office needs to debug his latest changes.

He calls in using Internet access.

Example 3

Example3.gif (26991 bytes)

In large development organization there are four engineers working on a big multi-DSP project.

  • Each of them has different work habits, requirements, location.
  • George likes to debug his application "Project G" in the lab environment.
  • Mary prefers to work from her workstation in the office.
  • Fred often has great ideas around midnight so he dials in from his home PC.
  • Suresh from India needs to debug his part of the "Project S" using WAN connection.
